The Los Angeles River isn't much of a river. For 50 years, as
Lewis Macadams and Robert Gottlieb put it in this L.A. Times op-ed
piece, it's been more like a concrete sewer. Now, inspired by San
Antonio's famed River Walk, some in the city are re-imagining the
channel as a pleasant place, an attraction even. But there are big
obstacles, too, including a developer's plans for riverside
warehouses in Chinatown. The writers, who oppose that idea, layout
the arguments.

environmental groups are considering promoting the greening of the
Los Angeles River system with a project that could remove concrete
from walls of the Tujunga Wash.
